Trouble Sleeping?

Insomnia affects about 54 percent of the adult population. Many sleep specialists and Primary Care Physicians refer patients to me, as I have developed a program that can help a patient eliminate or greatly reduce their need for medication using safe and well-accepted methods of psychotherapy, sleep hygiene, and deep relaxation. Unlike most therapists, my approach is active and direct. I teach skills that help a patient take control of their sleep situation.

CASE STUDY

Justin (name changed to protect privacy), a 22 year old college student,  sought my help after being referred to me by his sleep physician. He reported being very anxious about having to take sleep medications and was worried about becoming dependent. He also realized that he was only medicating the symptoms and not getting to the root of his sleeplessness. We worked for five sessions, during which we examined his sleep hygiene habits as well as  his current life anxieties.  I put him on a nightly routine of my sleep CD (available on this website) and taught him cognitive tools to examine his anxious thoughts. By the end of session four, he was completely off of Ambien and sleeping through the night. At session five, a very grateful Justin and I agreed that we had resolved his sleep issue. He continues to send me his friends and family for counseling and sleep issues.
